Spirituality, Signs, Mediums & the Universe

Embracing the Unseen and Seeable

I have long seen myself as a woman of pure science and fact. But when Nathaniel died, I began to approach spirituality and the Universe differently. It was a slow progression. Not all loss parents find this to be the case for them, but many do, and in opening myself up to the possibility and world of the unseen, to signs, energies, and vibrations changes I feel like I have built a deeper connection to the world by recognizing that I will not understand all that there is or is possible. By doing so, I have built a connection with Nathaniel, I didn't even think possible. - Sarah

**Makenna Recommended** In Signs, Jackson is able to bring the mystical into the everyday. She relates stories of people who have experienced uncanny revelations and instances of unexplained synchronicity, as well as others drawn from her own experience. There’s the lost child who appears to his mother as a deer that approaches her unhesitatingly at a highway rest stop; the name written on a dollar bill that lets a terrified wife know that her husband will be okay; the Elvis Presley song that arrives at the exact moment of Jackson’s own father’s passing; and many others. This is a book that is inspiring and practical, deeply comforting and wonderfully motivational, in asking us to see beyond ourselves to a more magnificent universal design.

Laura Lynne Jackson is a wife, a mother, a high school English teacher—and a psychic medium. Where most believe an impenetrable wall divides the world between the living and the dead, Jackson sees brilliant cords of light. She has dedicated her life to exploring our connection to the Other Side, conversing with departed loved ones, and helping people come to terms with loss. In The Light Between Us, she writes with clarity and grace, addressing the eternal questions that vex us all: Why are we here? What happens when we die? How do we find our true path in this life? Laura Lynne Jackson’s story offers a new understanding of the vast reach of our consciousness and enlarges our view of the human experience.

Tobin Hart, psychologist, professor, and pioneer of the ChildSpirit movement, explains how to recognize and identify children's deep spiritual connections. Children's spirituality is an important part of the development of identity and self-actualization, and recognizing and nurturing this growth process is critical for parents, educators, and therapists. Based on more than ten years of interviews, this book combines startling firsthand accounts of secret spiritual lives, including recollections from adults who have forgotten or repressed such childhood experiences. Dr. Hart's exploration reveals the astonishing complexity of inner spirituality and exposes children's innate ability to access wisdom and knowledge far beyond their years.

In this eighth and final volume in his Pulitzer Prizewinning Children of Crisis series, Coles examines the religious and spiritual lives of children. By using children's own words and pictures, Coles presents their deepest feelings.

Through vivid stories of devoted pigs, two-timing magpies, and scheming roosters, The Inner Life of Animals weaves the latest scientific research into how animals interact with the world with Peter Wohlleben's personal experiences in forests and fields. We learn that horses feel shame, deer grieve, and goats discipline their kids. Ravens call their friends by name, rats regret bad choices, and butterflies choose the very best places for their children to grow up.

One of the many challenges parents may face after their child dies is how this loss fits within their spiritual/religious beliefs.  Families may not have had their faith tested before and this experience may force them to consider those big life and death questions. This article offers some families’ perspectives, including my own, on soul-searching that may assist caregivers in how to better support bereaved families. The terms “spiritual” and “God” are used here in a very broad sense and are not necessarily connected with organized religions/institutions. The end of the article offers a long list of recommended books and readings.

Perinatal care is fraught with complicated emotions and challenging dynamics. Issues may come up during the pre-term labor and delivery, or in the neonatal intensive care unit. Sometimes families may face the unthinkable loss of a baby before, during or after labor. In each of these situations, chaplains can play a crucial role in supporting the complex needs associated with perinatal care. There is substantive research literature that provides insights and helpful strategies for effective spiritual and emotional support for patients and families in chaplains’ care. This page outlines some of the research leading up to the Nov/Dec 2019 publishing of this article. Loss parents may be interested in using this article to go directly to the peer-reviewed research cited, and read for themselves.

Forever Family Foundation’s experience has been that 85-90% of mediums practicing today cannot do what they claim, so it is important to make a good choice in selecting a medium. Forever Family Foundation has been conducting a Medium Evaluation Certification Program since 2005. The whole process is free of charge, and no medium can pay to be listed on our site. Evaluations are conducted under controlled conditions, and the sole purpose of the program is to provide a reliable resource for the bereaved. The “Certified” label has been bandied about frequently over the years by other organizations and mediums – be sure to investigate the protocol of such certifications and find out if any money changed hands in the process.

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady and always creates a beneficial effect. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.
